Vital Statistics Information

Birth Certificates

The following information is available:

  • Certified birth certificates for the entire state of Minnesota from 1900 - present.

  • Birth records from 1875 to present for the County of Red Lake.

    To receive a certified birth certificate, you must have proof of tangible interest in the subject. Non-certified birth certificates are provided without tangible interest. Certificates may be obtained by mail or in person.

     FEES:

  • Certified: $26.00 one copy and $19.00 each additional copy of same certificate.

  • Non-certified: $13.00 per copy.

 

    Information For Requests by Mail:

  1. Complete the Birth Certificate Application Form.

  2. Print the completed form

  3. Have your signature on the form notarized

  4. Enclose copy of Driver’s License or state issues ID card

  5. Enclose check or money order payable to: Red Lake County Recorder

  6. Mail to: Red Lake County Recorder, P.O. Box 3, Red Lake Falls, MN 56750

    Walk-In Requests: You will be asked to complete and sign an application stating that you have tangible interest in the subject. You will need to provide identification, such as a driver's license, you will then receive the certified birth certificate in minutes.

     

 

Death Certificates

The following information is available:

  • Death Certificates from 1997 to present for the entire state of Minnesota.

  • Death Records from 1875 to present for the County of Red Lake.

    To receive a certified death certificate, you must have proof of tangible interest in the subject. Non-certified death certificates are provided without tangible interest. Certificates may be obtained by mail or in person.

     FEES:

  • Certified: $13.00 one copy and $6.00 each additional copy of same certificate.

  • Non-certified: $13.00 per copy and $6.00 each additional copy of same certificate.

 

     Information For Request by Mail:

  1. Print Death Certificate Application Form (Minnesota Department of Health)

  2. Complete the form

  3. Have your signature on the form notarized

  4. Enclose copy of Driver’s License or state issues ID card

  5. Enclose check or money order payable to: Red Lake County Recorder

Credentials of Ordination

To perform a marriage in Minnesota, you must file your Credentials of Ordination or Credentials of Licensing. This must be done in one of the counties in Minnesota prior to performing marriage ceremonies. In Red Lake County, you can file by mail or in-person.

Information For Request by Mail: Send us your original record of your license or certificate
for filing. When submitting by mail, our office also needs a Certificate of Filing (PDF) completed
and sent along with your original record.

Marriage Certificates

Marriage certificates are available only for those couples who applied for their license in Red Lake County.

Information For Request by Mail: Send us request by providing full names and date of marriage.

  • Non-certified: $9.00 each

Marriage License

Applicants must complete an application, provide social security number and have a picture ID when applying.

 
FEES:
Applying for Marriage License When One Party Cannot Appear

If one of the parties cannot appear in person at the Local Registrar's Office at the time of application for marriage, the applicant appearing will complete a full application supplying all of the information for both parties.  The supplemental application must be completed by the non appearing marriage applicant.  A copy of the marriage application made by the appearing party will appear on the reverse side of the application.
